11/12/2011

Nov 3rd and 4th-2011 we spent 2 days at sea heading back to Rome.

On one of the evenings that had "chocolate night" at midnight on the cruise ship. We had just watched a show on their stage and had dinner. So we stayed up, we were way to full to enjoy the chocolate so we took some back to our state room to munch on later. We did a lot of fun things on the ship: exercised, went to their Broadway productions, layed out by the pool, jacuzzi ed, ate great food, slept in and did just about anything we wanted to.
(EVERYTHING YOU SEE IN THESE PICTURES ARE MADE WITH REAL CHOCOLATE AND EVERYTHING WAS EDIBLE).

ARCH OF CONSTANTINE
THIS SPECTACULAR ARCH WAS ERECTED IN HONOR OF CONSTANTINE'S DEFEAT OF THE PAGAN MAXENTIUS IN 312 A.D. IT SITS IN THE SAME AREA AND ENTRANCE TO THE COLLISIUM. IT IS THE LARGEST AND BEST PRESERVED ARCHES IN ROME. THE PICTURES ON THE ARCH RANGE FROM THE PERIODS OF TRAJAN, HADRIAN,AURELIUS TO CONSTANTINE. THE FIGURES ARE IN HIERARCHICAL ORDER OF THE TIME PERIODS. THIS DEPICTS THE ENDIND OF CLASSICAL ART AND BEGINNING OF MEDIEVAL ART. IT TAKES AWHILE TO TAKE IT ALL IN BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH HISTORY IN THIS ARCH.
